I think your question meant "why must both the two lines be parallel to each other for their x intercept to be the same as the parabola?" Not sure if I got your meaning.

ReplyDeleteI think (not sure if I'm right) the two lines have to be parallel as if you try multiplying two y intercept values from the two lines to get the y intercept of the parabola (forms a straight line), it might not be the same value.
